Welcome to Medina, NY

Overview

Medina is a village in the towns of Shelby and Ridgeway in southwestern Orleans County. With a population just over 6,000, Median is the second-most populated municipality in Orleans County (after Albion, the county seat). The Erie Canal bends and passes though the village, creating a basin that served as a stopover point. Medina has a charming downtown business district and is home to the Medina Railroad Museum, one of the largest railroad and toy-train museums in the state. Here, you’re almost exactly halfway between Rochester (to the east) and Buffalo (to the west).

Essentials

For groceries, Medina has a Top’s Friendly Market and a smaller Nice n Easy Grocery Shoppe, as well as the Ridge Way Bulk Food Bakery and mini marts. The historic downtown district has a wide variety of shopping options and restaurants.

Recreation & Entertainment

A variety of summer events are held along the Erie Canal. The railroad museum hosts year-round activities, including fall foliage tours and an annual visit from Thomas the Tank Engine for kids. Medina Lanes, a bowling center, is on Maple Ridge Road. The Diana Theatre on Main Street is being renovated into a multi-purpose entertainment center. Movie theaters can be found nearby in Lockport, Williamsville and Amherst to the west, and in Brockport to the east.

Transportation & Traffic

Medina is at the crossroads of Route 31 (east-west) and Route 63 (north-south). Route 31A, which runs off Route 31, is just south of the village. Route 98 is a short drive east. The Thruway runs south of Medina.
