Overview

Albion is a village that is part of the towns of Albion and Gaines, centrally located in Orleans County. It is the county seat and, with more than 6,000 residents, the most populated municipality in the county. The Erie Canal runs through the village, and there’s a canal side park here with boat docking and a great place to watch a lift bridge. The courthouse square is on the National Register of Historic Places, as well as the Main Street district.


Essentials

Main Street offers a variety of shopping options, and more shopping is available via a short ride south to Batavia or a quick trip west to Medina. For grocery shopping, Albion has a Top’s Friendly Market supermarket and other smaller stores. 



Recreation & Entertainment

The Erie Canal offers activities like boating and people watching, and there’s a park beside the canal. Oak Orchard Marine Park, a short drive north, is great for fishing and boating. Scottish Pines Par 3 is a nine-hole golf course located along the canal. Oak Orchard Bowl, at 3291 Oak Orchard Road, is the local bowling center. The Wild Rose Pony Club teaches youths riding skills and safety. Movie theaters all are a short drive away: to Lockport, heading west; Brockport, heading east; and Batavia, heading south.



Transportation & Traffic

Route 98 runs north-south through the village of Albion. Route 31 is the main east-west thoroughfare. The Thruway is a short drive south.



Pros & Cons

Albion’s location along the Erie Canal has long been an attraction. The village has many historic buildings and districts, and you’re about halfway between Lake Ontario and the Thruway. With Albion being the county seat, it’s easy to take care of government business.
